2½ inch [1:25,000] Scale – Colour: The ‘Provisional/1st series’ [around 2000 maps] are the ‘flat’ [unfolded] edition in colour. They were published between 1946 and 1977 using the national grid letter codes and numbers [‘HP40’ Baltasound [Shetland] to ‘TV69’ in Eastbourne]. They are ideal for framing and show many features that have since disappeared – especially the railways before the Beeching axe and wartime airfields.
